Finally Back

It’s like I can breath again!

Don’t get me wrong. I love traveling and going to events and doing fun stuff, but I’m very much the kind of person who likes to build his nest. My office here at home is my relaxing space where I can work at my own pace and maintain my own schedule and just tackle my projects one at a time.

When I travel I feel like everything is a constant act of juggling. This especially is the case when it comes to YouTube since there are no weeks off for videos. It’s admittedly one of the few things I do miss about my old day job. Working with a team at a 9 to 5 means that when I used to leave for vacation I actually got to leave work behind that someone else on the team would take care of. With YouTube, if I want to really put the work down while I’m away it means I need to do that week’s work ahead of time. That or I do some work while I’m away. I’m lucky in that I really love the work that I’m doing, but sometimes work is work. For me, it ends up being extra stressful when I have multiple trips planned in close proximity, because I know that time home in between is just a small window in which I have to prep for the next trip.

I’ll admit, tomorrow’s video is partially the product of that trip-after-trip rush. It has a few shots I’m not in love with, and part of me wonders if I should have re-recorded the VO. Yet I only had about 24 hours to produce it, so in most cases I had to just shrug and roll with it. From a channel perspective, that’s what I enjoy about being home. Having that extra time and freedom to put more effort into a video and make it as good as possible.

I just got back from a long weekend in Florida for my sister’s wedding. It was an amazing experience and I’m happy to have a brother-in-law that I can now call family. While it goes without saying that I wouldn’t have missed it for anything in the world, I’m also just really glad to be back home. More importantly, I’m glad to be back home with no travel or trips planned for the next six months.

I can start to stretch out my workflow to the normal one week cycle, and that means I’ll have more free time to work on projects I’ve wanted to work on. It also means I’ll have some free time to… well… have free time. It’s been a while since I just took an afternoon to go to the movies or a day off to play games.

In other news, I’ve been having a real blast playing the Disney D&D with Dan, Alicia, and Kevin. I don’t know how it’ll turn out as a podcast, but even if it ended up just being a fun hobby between four friends, I’d be happy with it. I’m not sure when there will be something to share with everyone, but knowing Kevin’s attention to detail and level of quality, it’ll be the best it can be when it’s ready.

That’s all I got for now. I’ll hopefully have some cool news to share in the next post, which I will try my best not to wait too long to post. It’ll be a good source of at least a few posts here in the future!
